Dear Fellow Latinos,
I first became passionate about career development in the early nineties when I realized that people often made pivotal career decisions based on the teachings of their cultural upbringing. At the time, I was the executive director of a mentoring program for Chicago high schools and saw first hand how Latino students approached the tasks of identifying their career interests and choosing colleges. Over the years, as my work evolved into writing a Careers Column in Spanish, and then a book in English upon readers’ request, I came to realize a stunning fact: The very same cultural values that guide our career choices also have an impact on the way we Latinos prepare our resumes, select an organization to work in, conduct job interviews and, ultimately, on how we manage our careers.
Some of those ways create the best path to success. But others, often unbeknownst to us, can easily derail one's career. So, for over a decade I developed and facilitated workshops for Latino Resource Groups in major corporations, presented at conferences and meetings, and became a consultant to companies wishing to attract and retain Latinos. Still, I wanted to find a way to help Latinos directly, by sharing the knowledge, tools, and power to achieve all of their career hopes and dreams.
Now, I have taken the information and skills gathered from 15 years of experience and distilled them into Latino Career Power, the first ever integrated career development system for Latinos. It has everything you need to take charge of your career in light of your cultural upbringing and in the context of what works and what doesn’t in Corporate America.
So here's to you, and to your career! Un abrazo,
